Overview
This course is
designed to increase knowledge and skills of management-level
professionals regarding workforce diversity issues. As a result of
successfully completing the course, students will enhance leadership
abilities in the area of diversity management.
Specifically, the course will increase student competency
in:
- understanding the
workforce diversity movement;
- workforce
diversity concerns within an organization;
- accepting
managerial responsibilities of valuing workforce diversity; and
- recognizing
best practices in creating, implementing, evaluating, and
communicating organizational diversity initiatives.
This course offers students the opportunity to:
- gain an
understanding of historical and contemporary events and dynamics
that create the need for organizational action.
- examine personal
thoughts on the diversity movement.
Investigate and report on established dimensions of diversity,
specifically:
Inner dimensions – race and
ethnic heritage, age, mental and physical abilities, sexual
orientation, gender
Outer dimensions – religious
diversity, diversity of class

recognize
the challenges and benefits to developing a well-supported and
executed workforce diversity initiative.

demonstrate
competency in diversity management by creating an organizational
plan to be applied to a business, government agency, or
non-profit of their choice.
